8 little things to do before your trip
This week has been very exciting because I'm getting ready to go to Disneyland!
Watch my Instagram story beginning on Sunday for a live look-in on all the holiday fun in Disneyland and California Adventure.
Meanwhile, let's talk about some of the things to do in those few weeks leading up to your theme park vacation. These are simple but very useful steps I take every time to get ready to go.
Things to do in the couple of weeks before your trip:
Check the weather forecast
Don't assume the weather never changes in Orlando or LA. Watch the forecast so you're properly prepared & can pack wisely.
Check theme park hours
Park hours can change with very little notice - sometimes just a day or two. Be sure you know the actual park hours, especially opening time, so you don't show up too early or (heaven forbid) after the gates have already opened. (You did read my last newsletter, right?)
Install the park app on your phone
Save your password and set up your payment method so everything is good to go.
Search for last-minute dining reservations
Even if you couldn't get a table when you checked at the 60-days-prior mark, now's your chance to pick up someone else's cancelled reservation. Use a free service like MouseDining.com or the TouringPlans dining reservation finder to handle your search.
Here's my post & podcast episode about how to use the TouringPlans reservation finder.
Order your park gear
Purchasing essentials like ponchos and Magic Bands while you're still at home can save time & money. Now's the time to use that Prime membership & do your final stock-up.
Here's the gear I recommend. (Excellent stocking stuffer ideas here BTW)
Get your feet ready
A few long walks in the weeks before your trip will pay off. It's a great way to improve your fitness level and a chance to test your shoes for comfort.

Review your preliminary touring plan
Talk to your travel buddies to figure out top priorities and a rough touring plan for at least the first park day.
Find downloadable park maps and walking distance info for Disneyland on my website here, maps and walking distances for Universal Orlando and Disney World here.
Check into your hotel online
At Disney World you can check-in online up to 60 days before your trip. Disneyland is up to 5 days ahead of your stay, and Universal Orlando offers mobile check-in 24 hours in advance.
